Video Poker Variations
It's funny, as video poker continues to become more and more popular across the nation, I can't help but notice that there is a very strong misconception that seems to have taken root in the minds of many people. I cannot tell you how often I fall into conversation with individuals who seem to think that video poker is an inherently limited and even simple game.
I do my very best to correct this fallacy, but you know how difficult it can be to dislodge an idea which is deeply embedded in someone's head. Hopefully, this article will be able to shed some light on the vast complexity which can be found within the realm of video poker variations.
I think the reason so many people assume video poker is simple is that they have become accustomed to watching professional poker tournaments on television. Obviously, the experience of sitting at a computer screen cannot contain the vast array of ramifications which are involved when seated at a table with a collection of other sentient being such as yourself. Thus, it is at least marginally accurate to say that video poker can never achieve the level of sophistication of the live version - especially when played at the various highest levels of skill.
But it is a great mistake to take this supposition too far and thus underestimate the wide range of diversity available to a video poker player who is willing to take the time to discover all of the opportunities available online poker games. Therefore, I always advise people who have only experimented with a limited range of the video poker variations to expose themselves to a host of other games which will be just as challenging and perhaps even as rewarding as their tried and true favorites.
It goes without saying that a casual peruse all of the Internet will uncover tons and tons of familiar video poker variations, including 7-Card Draw, all my hot, Caribbean Stud and of course Texas Holdem. But take a look at some of these additional variations, most of which are relatively unknown, to one degree or another, and you may just find yourself appreciating a new game even more than one which you've been playing for many years. Variety is the spice of life, and that sentiment is never more true than in the realm of video poker.
A partial list of popular video poker variations would run as follows: Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Joker Wild, Loose Deuces, Double Joker Poker, Deuces and Joker Wild, 7s Wild and Jacks or Better with Double Card (also known as Louisiana Double.)
All of the games listed above obviously qualify as "Wild" games. A list of "Non-Wild" games would be sure to include Tens or Better, Aces and Eights, Aces and Faces, Bonus Poker, Double Bonus, Triple Bonus and Pick Em Poker.
As you can see, there is not exactly a shortage of options here for the open-minded individual to discover. You might as well try 'em all.
